A truly Vintage Märklin Train Set …

It was October 1936 when the owner purchased this train set in Amsterdam from a department store called V & D.  As he worked for Dutch East Indian Railway Company he was soon on his way onboard ship to the East Indies.

Meanwhile, the Japanese continued their second conquest of China, our railwayman remained unpreturbed and on duty until late 1941 before it seemed he’d have to pack up and move on.  Japan had attacked Pearl Harbour and war was coming to the East Indies.  In early 1942 this train set was once again packed into a suit case and stowed onboard a ship, the second last one to leave the East Indies, this time bound for the fairest Cape of all.

Fast forward to 2016…

80 years have passed since this set was purchased.  Still in working order, from the transformers to the locomotive, track with its points (switches) and its buildings are in a cabinet and available for someone wanting a true piece of Märklin history.
